San Diego Vacation

This year, Julian and I decided that we wanted to take a family vacation to Carlsbad, California where we used to live.  We debated doing a trip to Mexico with just the two of us, but we ultimately decided that we wanted to take a family trip instead and we picked Carlsbad because it is only about 6 hours from us but we would be able to enjoy the beach and all that San Diego has to offer.  We found a really nice house on HomeAway that we were able to rent that was really convenient to walk to the beach from and also only about a 5 minute drive to Legoland.

We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and we headed straight for the beach!  I figured Grayson would love the beach but I wasn't too sure about Clare since she is a little less steady on her feet.  Grayson immediately ran down and started sticking his feet in the water, throwing rocks into the ocean and picking up sand.  He was a little wild man and he was having an absolute blast!  Clare was a little more cautious but she was really happy to play in the sand and with the rocks.  When the water came up around her feet, she did not like the feeling at all!  She had a lot of fun but made sure that she stayed a little ways back from where the water was.

Our second day happened to fall on Mother's Day and it was extra fun for me because my mom was with us for the first half of our trip so she was able to be there with me.  My kids were extra cute and Julian had them make cards for me and buy me some of my favorite handmade peanut butter cups from my favorite store in Oceanside, Frazier Farms.  Being a mom is the greatest blessing in my life and I absolutely love that I get to spend every day with my two sweet little goofballs!  I am also extremely grateful for the example that my mom was for me and all that she did to raise me.  She has been a huge help and source of support for me since I became a mother three years ago.

We decided that we wanted to buy 5 day passes for Legoland since it was so close to us.  The kids were both still free since they were both under 3.  The first day that we were at Legoland we discovered that there wasn't actually a whole lot that Clare was tall enough for and even Grayson was too short for a lot of things.  We still had a good time but there were a lot of rides that I didn't really understand the height restrictions on.

The next day, we took the kids to the aquarium at Legoland and they had an absolute blast!  They were in love with all of the different kinds of fish and sharks.  Clare kept running up to each tank and waving at the fish and yelling "hi fishies!"  It was pretty cute :)  Grayson's favorite part was getting to touch a few starfish and rays.  We ended up going back two more times during our stay because the kids had so much fun.

We were also able to go to Torrey Pines which is my favorite area to hike in the San Diego area.  It was an overcast and sort of windy day but it was still a lot of fun and we really enjoyed our hike!

After my mom left, we had a few more days with just the four of us and we spent as much time as possible at the beach.  We also enjoyed eating at some of our favorite spots from our time living in that area.  It was a really great family vacation and I'm so grateful that we made some really fun memories!
