8 Months

Happy 8 months to my sweet little Grayson!  I can't believe he has been with us for 2/3 of a year!  He is turning into such a fun little guy and he brings so much joy into our home.  This past month we celebrated J's birthday, traveled to Wyoming to celebrate my Grandma Phillips' 80th birthday, and we enjoyed G's first Valentine's Day.

J is not a big fan of making a big deal out of his birthday, in fact he has said that his perfect birthday would be one where he didn't even realize it had been his birthday until the day had already passed.  I am willing to not make a huge deal out of it but I just can't let my love's birthday pass without any acknowledgement so G and I decided to take him lunch at work.  We were hoping to eat on the beach but it was a little chilly (for San Diego) so we decided to stay in J's office.  He has a view out over the water so it was still nice.  :)  We also picked up sushi and a cupcake for dinner but I didn't go too crazy.  Happy Birthday to the best husband and dad that G and I could hope for!

Daddy wants him to learn these principles early :)

Our next adventure involved a quick weekend trip to Wyoming to celebrate my Grandma's 80th birthday. We flew out of the Orange County airport on a Friday evening and when we were in the security line J said "I think that is Dustin Kensrue a few people ahead of us." Dustin Kensrue is the lead singer of the band Thrice, which is one of J's favorite bands.  He did a solo album that had the song "Pistol" on it which we think of as our song and we used it for our first dance at our wedding.  After we got through security I needed food so we went over to the McDonalds and we saw the same man.  J took the stroller near him but he still wasn't sure if it actually was him.  After I ordered, he decided to just lean over and ask the man if he was Dustin Kensrue.  It turned out to be him so we talked to him for a few minutes and he took a picture with G.  He was extremely nice and complimented our little man which made me like him even more!  J has followed his music for years so he was a bit star struck at having met one of his idols!

We flew in to Salt Lake where my dad picked us up and we spent the night at my parents house.  The next day we drove up to Wyoming (about an hour and 15 minutes away) for the party.  I was born in Evanston and I lived there until I was 11 so it is always fun to go back.  Unfortunately it was a very snowy day so my Uncle G and his family plus my cousin C were unable to make it over from Eastern Wyoming because the roads were closed.  My dad and his other three siblings were there with their families as well as my Great-Uncle J and my grandma's niece M.  We all met up at a restaurant called Bon Rico which I had never been to before.  The dinner was absolutely delicious but the company was even better!  It was fun to have G meet a lot of my family that he hadn't met yet and I think it meant a lot to my Grandma that we all came to celebrate her!  I know that I am biased but I think my extended family is a lot of fun. :)

After the dinner, we told my grandma we were going to her house but instead we steered her in to a different building where a band and a bunch of her friends were waiting to surprise her.  We toasted an amazing woman and then we were even treated to her rendition of "Buffalo Gal" with the band backing her up. :) We had a great night as a family.  I am so glad that we were able to make it to celebrate my grandma who is an amazing woman.  She has always been there for me and I have a ton of fond memories of growing up with her.  She was always a willing participant in my little "plays" as a kid.  We had a lot of tea parties and sleep overs, especially after my sister was born so that I would feel special even with a new baby around.  I am so grateful to have my grandmother around and I truly hope that G gets to know her as he grows up!  Unfortunately we had to fly back to California on Sunday so we didn't get nearly enough time with my family but we are so glad that we were able to see everyone!

Cheers to Grammie!

Uncle D's turn!

G loved it when my mom read him Brown Bear!

We finished out the month by celebrating G's first Valentine's Day (we aren't all that into V-Day but with an adorable baby to dress up I liked it more this year).  G got a new little pirate ship themed pool for our back yard and some Batman socks (my inner nerd couldn't resist them) and J brought me a bottle of wine,  cheese itz, and a sweet card.  He gets me. :) We were able to test out the pool a few days later and G absolutely loved it!  He loves baths but I wasn't sure how he would do in cold water.  He ended up playing without getting upset at all for almost an hour.  He was pretty adorable and now I can't wait to get him in a real pool!

At 8 months G:
- is 19 lbs!  He seems to just keep growing and growing.  Even though he looks like quite a chunk he is still only in the 25th percentile for weight.
-is 28 1/2 inches long.  This puts him in the 85th percentile for height.
-wears some 3-6 and some 6-9 month clothes.  He is long enough for 6-9 but still a little too thin.
-sleeps 12-13 hours most nights though usually he wakes up between 6-8 wanting a bottle and then he goes back to sleep until about 9.
-pushes up onto his hands and knees and will move a knee, a hand, and then another knee but then he looks around and as soon as he sees me he flattens himself back out.  I'm in no rush to have him crawling so I hope he keeps this up for a while :)
-likes to get on his hands and feet and push his hands off the ground to try to stand up.  He isn't quite there yet but he has been getting pretty close.
-occasionally pushes himself up to a sitting position from the floor.  He has done it a handful of times but not consistently.
-loves it when momma sings or dances with him.  He loves anything with exaggerated movement and facial expressions so I tend to look pretty silly while entertaining him!
-is good at playing by himself as long as he has a variety of toys around him.  He likes his lamaze toys, his crunchy blocks, his stacking rings (which he can stack but normally he just likes to throw them), and books.
-LOVES jumping in his jumperoo.  He will jump for a solid 30-45 minutes most days.
-eats a good variety of fruits and vegetables that are pureed.  This month I am planning on giving him small chunks of steamed vegetables to start working on more solid options.  He does like puffs and mum-mums though he prefers to have someone else feed him the puffs instead of using his own hands.
-has pretty good control of his fine motor skills.  He is very good at using his thumb and index finger to make precise movements.  He is good at picking things up and he likes his little football that has holes in it for him to grab.
-tries to roll off of everything which has made diaper changes particularly fun.
-smiles and laughs all the time.  He is a really good happy baby.  He normally only gets fussy when he is either hungry or tired.  We are so blessed by this little guy every day!

7 Months

Sweet Baby Grayson is now 7 months old!  Our sweet little man grew so much over the last month!  We started out G's 6th month in Utah where we celebrated Christmas followed by celebrating a quiet New Year's in California.  We then settled back in to our routine at home and we finished out the month with a visit from J's parents and his brother G during which we were able to have a Dedication for baby Grayson.
Such a happy baby!

I have decided to write a separate post about Christmas because I have too many cute pictures to cram in to this post. :)  We were very happy to be reunited with J before Christmas after not seeing him for three weeks.  He flew up to Utah so that we could spend the week with my family.  We had an awesome holiday filled with good food, great company, and our first night away from our sweet boy.  My parents offered to keep G at their house overnight while we went out for dinner, a movie and a night in a hotel.  We love our little man SO much but it was great to have a night as just adults and also to have a night where I knew for certain I would not be woken up at all!  We were very grateful to my family for taking such good care of him!  Our flight home involved my first time changing G in an airplane bathroom which was actually a lot easier than I expected so that's one fear I don't have to worry about while flying in the future.  We had an awesome time in Utah but it was also nice to get back home and get back into our normal routine.
G loved seeing his Grandparents!

So happy to have Daddy back!

Cutie!

I don't know what this face is but I think it's adorable :)

We had a nice quiet New Year's at home with just our little family.  G fell asleep way before midnight and then J and I had a netflix marathon which is something that we really enjoy! We spent some time at the beach since we are lucky enough to live in nice sunny SoCal where it is 70 degrees for the holidays.  About a week later it was 85 degrees so I put G in his swimsuit and we met J at the beach for lunch.  We stuck G's little feet in the ocean for the first time and he didn't seem to mind it when it wasn't rushing in from behind him.  He was really interested in the sand so it was a bit of a challenge to keep his hands out of it so that he wouldn't shove it in his mouth.  We had a lot of fun and we are so grateful for our remaining time in California!
G got Babiators for Christmas!

We finished out Gray's 6th month with a visit from J's parents and his brother G.  We were able to have a pastor from our church, North Coast Calvary Chapel, come to our house to perform a private baby dedication while we had family here.  It was really great to be able to share the moment with Grayson's grandparents!  Our church doesn't believe in baptizing a person until they are old enough to accept Jesus as their Savior so instead we pray over the baby together.  It was so nice of our church to send someone over so that we could do this in our home since they only perform dedications during the service every other month and the dates just didn't work for us.  We plan on raising Grayson to be a Christian and we hope he will grow into a Godly man.  We spent the rest of the weekend going for walks to the park, enjoying the beach, and having fun family time.

Love our little family!

Glad we had some of the Mueller clan with us!

At 7 months Grayson:
- weighs about 18 lbs.  He definitely went through a growth spurt!
- is about 28 inches- I think that is about how long he is but he is a squirmy kiddo so it's tough to get an accurate measure!
- Is still wearing mostly size 3-6 months but some of it is starting to get too short.  He has also developed a little bit more of a belly so he is filling things out a little more.
- sleeps all the way through the night about half the time and the other half I have to get up to put the bink back in his mouth and sometimes sing "Twinkle, twinkle" to get him back to sleep.  I am very grateful to have a baby that is easy to get back to sleep when he wakes up!  We still usually sleep in until 8 or 9.
- is constantly trying to move and always wants to see everything around him.  He is a big fan of craning his neck around so that he sees every direction.  He seems to get extra curious when I have him in his carrier since he has to face me.
- has started pushing up to all 4's and rocking back and forth.  Since we have hardwood floors I finally ordered a floor mat for G to play on and within 5 minutes of me putting it together he had already pushed up to all 4's.  I'm not really in a hurry to have him crawling since I think it will make life a lot more crazy :)
- loves dancing with his mama!  He really likes being thrown in the air and flipped upside down.  He also likes spinning and bouncing and when I have enough energy he loves it when I jump with him.
- loves "reading" books by which I mostly mean chewing on them or looking at the pictures with me.
- loves jumping in his jumperoo and exploring lots of different toys.  I usually put several toys near him and he wiggles around until he gets to the one that he wants.
- eats sweet potatoes, avocado, carrots and bananas.  I puree everything and freeze it in ice cube trays so that I don't have to prep it every day.  He is pretty messy while eating but he has been improving.
- says "bababa", "lalala", "dadada", "t,t,t" and "mamama".  He really only whines "mamama" but he always says "dadada" in the cutest little voice.  :)
- can squeak Sophie the giraffe, loves Pete the Peacock, Mort the Moose, anything that makes the crinkle sound, and his stacking rings.
- can sit up for about ten minutes at a time though sometimes he topples with no warning.

Loves his jumperoo!

It has been so fun to watch him grow and improve what he can do on a daily basis!
